Name: Caol Ila Feis Ile 2012

Overall Character: Powerful, sweet and salty citrus

Recommended Drinker: People who like exciting and flavorful whiskies should drink this. It’s definitely not for the timid or simple whisky drinker. Still, it’s a wonderful whisky for people with an open mind. I loved it. It’s a bit pricey and rare, though, like most Feis Ile bottles.

Name: Caol Ila 25

Overall Character:Sweet citrus and smoke

Recommended Drinker: This doesn’t pack the punch of young Islay whiskies, so big smoky whisky lovers should avoid it, but people who want a bit of smoke with some classy flavor would like this quite a bit. Definitely drink it at a bar or a friend’s house. Otherwise stick with the younger versions.

Recommended Drinker: This is classic Islay, so if you like raw peat and smoke and brine, then go for this. Even at a lower strength, it has quite a bit of flavor.

Name: Caol Ila Distiller’s Edition

Overall Character: Caramel, smoke, and fruits

Recommended Drinker: If you like fruity peat, you should like this, though it’s not extremely fruity. It’s not very strong, either, and it’s a bit pricy. Of course if you like the normal 12 year old Caol Ila, you should give this a try.

Name: Caol Ila 14 Unpeated

Overall Character: Sweet peppery fruits

Recommended Drinker: I really like this one. I recommend this to any single malt drinker. It’s great for Islay drinkers who want to see what a good Islay whisky is like without the peat influence. It’s good for studying, but of course you shouldn’t buy it if you want smoke or peat.

Name: Caol Ila 12

Overall Character: Smoky sea water and herbs

Recommended Drinker: This is a good introduction to Islay whisky, so I’d say it’s for newcomers with an open mind. Don’t buy it if you strictly like sweet and simple whiskies.

Name: Sullivan’s Cove Double Cask

Overall Character: Sweet and slightly sour

Recommended Drinker: Once again, I only recommend this to world whisky drinkers, or people who want to try something new. It’s definitely one of the better little-known world brands, but as with most Australian whiskies, it is a bit overpriced.
